Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) called GOP strategist Karl Rove’s recent remarks questioning former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s cognitive functions 'stupid" and "pathetic" on Sunday.
"The Karl Rove effort was pathetic," Feinstein said on CNN's "State of the Union," dismissing any discussion of Clinton’s 2012 concussion as illegitimate and unfounded. "That she has sustained brain damage? That’s legitimate?"
Feinstein, who backed Clinton's run for the White House in 2008, maintained that Clinton is "in the prime of her political life" and pointed to her foreign policy experience as Secretary of State as a compelling prerequisite for a potential presidential bid in 2016.
"She’s got the energy, she’s articulate, she’s got the background, she’s got the smarts. She has all of the elements of a good leader, plus the fact -- and this is not to be underestimated -- she is enormously attractive to people," Feinstein said. "She carries the torch for women, who are the majority of votes in this country, very strongly and holds it very high. I think people respond to her."
Although Rove insisted he didn’t have any doubts about Clinton’s physical capability on Fox News Sunday, he pointed to Clinton's six-month recovery process as a concerning factor if the former first lady were to run.
"Look, the Centers for Disease Control says a concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury," Rove said.
