The Real Story Of Piper And Alex From 'Orange Is The New Black' Will Surprise You

The Truth About Alex And Piper Will Crush You

Don't deny it, one of the best parts of "Orange Is the New Black" is the rising sexual tension and relationship drama between Piper and Alex.

It was a huge moment in the Netflix series when the two exes finally hooked up in prison -- one, because everyone loves a lil romance, and two, because it's prison and that's just crazy. But apparently that storyline was a little too crazy to be real (we should've figured).

Jenji Kohan's hit Netflix show may be based on the real life experiences of Piper Kerman, as told in her memoir, but that doesn't mean the show reflects what actually happened. In her first time talking to the press, Catherine Clearly Wolters, the real-life Alex Vause, told Vanity Fair the truth about her and Kerman's relationship, and it's a whole lot different from the show.

“We did not have sex in prison,” Wolters, told Vanity Fair, “Not even a little bit.” Sorry, "OITNB" fans, but you just can't believe everything you see on TV! The 51-year-old ex-con who has spent almost 20 years in prison or on parole also said that her and Kerman's relationship was way different than portrayed in the show. Apparently the two only spent five weeks together in the same prison.

Another major misrepresentation in the Netflix was that Alex was Piper's first (and only) girlfriend. That's not true at all according to Wolters, who explained to Vanity Fair, "I was not Piper’s first, and I certainly did not seduce her." The two didn't actually hook up in real life until after they trafficked drugs and money, and even then, they never technically dated. "We weren't girlfriends,” Wolters said,"We were friends with benefits."

We know your world is likely shattered now that you know the truth, but that's okay; at least there's Kohan to spice up reality for us (which is why we all love TV, right?). Now forget everything we just said and start pretending again before "OITNB" season 2 starts.
