Woman Superheroes Are No Match For Burgers, According To Carl's Jr.

Apparently, Only Men Can Handle Carl's Jr. Burgers

Carl's Jr. burgers are for men -- and not even a female superhero can handle their latest heart-stopping offering.

In a new ad for their 'X-Tra Bacon Thickburger,' the fast-food chain shows X-Men character Mystique transforming into a macho man before taking a bite of the burger. "Man up," the accompanying text reads -- because only dudes can eat such cuisine, right?

As Lauren Davidson at PolicyMic put it, the message translates to something like: "Hey, women who like burgers: What's wrong with you? Don't you know that only manly men can truly enjoy a fat, juicy burger stuffed full of greasy bacon strips?"

Carl's Jr. has notoriously featured bikini-clad models in previous, hypersexualized spots, and introducing X-Men's badass female character to their ads could have been a positive move. But instead of seeing the shape-shifter kicking ass and taking names, she simply transforms into a man so she can "handle" the burger.

PSA: Women like burgers too. But from your ads, Carl's Jr., it doesn't seem like you're interested in female clientele.
