James Franco 'Embarrassed' By Leaked Chat With Teen Girl

James Franco Speaks Out After Chat With Teen Girl Leaks

James Franco appeared on "Live with Kelly and Michael" on Friday, April 4, and revealed he's "embarrassed" about the leaked Instagram and text message conversation he had with a 17-year-old Scottish girl.

"I was just feeling awkward. I didn't want to come on the show and just feel awkward. So yeah. I mean, I guess I'm embarrassed," Franco told hosts Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan. "I guess I'm just a model of how social media is tricky. You know, it's a way people meet each other today. But what I've learned I guess just because I'm new to it, you don't know who is on the other end. You meet somebody in person and you get a feel for them, but you don't know who you are talking to [online]. So I used bad judgement and I learned my lesson."

"Fortunately, in my position I have a very good life, but not only do I have to go through the embarrassing kind of rituals of meeting someone, sometimes if I do that, then it gets published for the world," he continued. "So now, you know, it's like doubly embarrassing."

The 35-year-old actor's conversation with the teenage girl made headlines on April 3, and while it still seems like odd timing for such a leak to occur given that Franco stars as a high school girls' soccer coach who has an affair with one of his teenage players in the upcoming film based on his short stories, "Palo Alto," he seemed genuinely embarrassed by the situation while discussing it with Ripa and Strahan.
