Eckhart Tolle On The Distractions That Block Our Spiritual Connection To Nature (VIDEO)

The Simple Spiritual Practice That Will Change The Way You See The World

When you take a walk or go for a morning jog, do you wear headphones? A New Earth author Eckhart Tolle says you may be missing out on an important spiritual moment.

Every day, Tolle says he takes a walk through the forest near his home. Most of the people he encounters on his path are either wearing headphones or chatting with a friend. "And very few people are actually truly present there as they walk through this beautiful forest," Tolle says in the above video. "And this is a spiritual practice. And I recommend that people -- whenever they go out into nature, especially -- practice being very alert so that they can perceive the trees, the flowers, the plans, the sky, without too much mental interference."

Oprah says she's always been curious about what people are listening to when they run. "Even now, working out, I like just being and feeling my feet on the pavement and taking it all in," she says. "I like just being with myself, and I find the headphones and all that, it's a distraction for me."

The conversation continues during part 2 of the television debut of "Oprah and Eckhart Tolle: A New Earth," a 10-part series airing Sunday at 12 p.m. ET on OWN.
