L'Wren Scott Accomplished Much More Than Dating Mick Jagger

On Monday, the fashion world lost one of its most talented designers, L'Wren Scott.

Since news broke of her tragic death, dozens of articles about her life and achievements have appeared around the Internet, but many narratives continue to focus on L'Wren Scott, Mick Jagger's girlfriend, rather than L'Wren Scott, the woman who built a fashion empire.

So to all the media outlets that can't think of a better headline than "Mick Jagger's Girlfriend Found Dead," here is a shortlist of Scott's hard-earned accomplishments that deserve front-page attention instead:

  • She was discovered by famous photographer Bruce Weber in her late teens and promptly began her career as a model in Paris.
  • She walked the runway at Chanel and Thierry Mugler and even appeared in French Vogue.
  • She worked as a stylist in Hollywood in the '90s under Herb Ritts.
  • She also worked as a costume designer and consulted on Nicole Kidman's wardrobe for "Eyes Wide Shut" and has credits in other films like "Ocean's Thirteen" and "Mercy."
  • She launched her eponymous clothing line in 2006.
  • She dressed the likes of Michelle Obama, Madonna and Amy Adams.
  • She also began designing eyewear and handbags later on in her career.
  • One of her designs was featured in Andre Leon Talley's coffee table book, The Little Black Dress.
  • She recently collaborated with Banana Republic to make her designs available to the masses.

Of course, who L'Wren Scott was dating at the time of her death could be considered germane to her life story. But it shouldn't be the headline or the first thing mentioned when referring to her life and prolific career. Scott was a self-made woman whose accomplishments and achievements speak for themselves. Rest in peace, L'Wren -- we've lost a great talent.
