Eva Tamargo Of 'Tyler Perry's The Haves And The Have Nots' Explains Why She Likes Being A TV Villain (VIDEO)

Tyler Perry's TV Villain: 'I Like That They Don't Like Me'

Actress Eva Tamargo plays Celine Gonzales, the conniving, jealous housekeeper on "Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots." Over the course of two seasons, Celine has had a reckless affair with her married employer, conspired to get fellow housekeeper Hanna fired, told lie after lie to her bosses, berated her colleague and even got into a physical altercation with Hanna. Viewers love to hate Celine, but Tamargo wouldn't have it any other way.

While sitting down with Tyler Perry for a revealing look inside the characters and their storylines, Perry steers the discussion toward the TV villain. "I write you in a way that people... they don't like you," Perry says to Tamargo.

"No, they don't," Tamargo smiles.

"They celebrated when Hanna smacked the hell out of you!" he says, as the studio audience erupts into applause. "Look, they're clapping now. That's so bad."

Tamargo, though, takes no offense. "That's okay. I understand. I don't feel bad," she says. "I like that they don't like me."

Her reasoning has to do with the mystery surrounding Celine's past. "When you judge someone about the way they're being -- especially Celine -- you don't really know the struggle that woman is going through," Tamargo says. "Nobody really knows why she is acting that way. So I get that. Once they find out why, maybe they'll embrace her a little more."

As the writer of the show, Perry agrees -- and also reveals what may be in store for "The Haves and the Have Nots" next season. "As I'm writing these stories and as I'm writing all these characters, I'm always trying to find the backstory of your character," he tells Tamarago. "I want to follow her home next season. I want to see how she got to where she is."

Tamargo says she would love for the show to dive deeper into Celine's backstory, but, for now, she plans to hold off on passing judgment on her character's behavior. "I don't judge Celine. I think it's good to embrace both sides of a human being," she says. "If somebody's always nice all the time, I don't trust them too much."

The season finale of "Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots" airs tonight, March 11, at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
