Is West Hollywood Becoming 'Less Gay'? The Rubin Report Investigates

Is West Hollywood Becoming 'Less Gay'?

It's been Southern California's premier " gayborhood" for decades, but is West Hollywood losing its hold over the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community?

Responding to a Los Angeles Times report that West Hollywood City Hall was replacing its rainbow flag, host Dave Rubin and Ana Kasparian of The Young Turks discussed whether or not the city has become "less gay" over time in a recent installment of The Rubin Report.

"For me, I think it's great," Rubin, who pointed to news that The Abbey, a popular West Hollywood gay club, had banned bachelorette parties for straight women in 2012 before marriage equality came to California a year later, said. "We all should be equal and we should all go to bars and it shouldn't matter if you're gay or straight and all that ... as gay people have equality, it's going to come with the community itself having to change."

Kasparian felt similarly. "I don't want segregated communities; I want it to be integrated," she said. "I think that we're starting to head to that kind of society in more progressive areas of the country. Hopefully that kind of influence will seep into ... Middle America."
