Jennifer Lawrence After Thinking Her BAFTA Win Was A Prank: 'Oh, Go F--k Yourself'

Jennifer Lawrence Thought Someone Was Screwing With Her When She Learned Of Her BAFTA Win

Even though she's now won an Oscar and endured a neck-and-neck slugfest with Lupita Nyong'o for this year's Best Supporting Actress trophy, Jennifer Lawrence is somehow still flabbergasted when she wins awards. The newest example stems from her recent BAFTA victory, for "American Hustle." Lawrence wasn't at the ceremony because she was filming reshoots for "X-Men: Days of Future Past," but she was nothing if not shocked when Deadline.com asked her about having won.

“Oh, it was a big surprise,” she told Deadline this week from the "X-Men" set. “I didn’t remember that the BAFTAs were happening that day. I certainly did not think I was going to win one, so I put it out of my mind. So there I was, in the middle of being painted blue, and someone said, ‘You just won the BAFTA!’ And I said, ‘Oh, go f--k yourself!’ And then it turned out they were serious.”

The 23-year-old actress topped Nyong'o, Julia Roberts, Oprah Winfrey and Sally Hawkins for the award, and there's a chance she could repeat it at the Oscars on March 2 (except replace Winfrey with June Squibb). If she does, Lawrence says she learned a thing or two from her previous victory about how to comport herself -- including not forgetting to thank director David O. Russell.

"I think it’s really unfair to make a person speak in front of the entire world at a moment like that because it is just so overwhelming," she said. "It was terrifying and what I regret now is not doing what you’re supposed to, which is even having a few words, something, that you can say, or even some idea if they do call your name. I did learn, though, not to let the dress gather in the front when you walk up the stairs.”
