Carly Scott's Landlord Allegedly Steals Her Belongings Five Days After She Goes Missing

Landlord Allegedly Steals Missing Pregnant Woman's Belongings, Tries To Sell Them Back To Family

Carly Scott's family is outraged after the missing woman's landlord allegedly entered her Maui home and took her personal belongings, according to a report from Hawaii News Now.

Scott, who is five-months pregnant, was reported missing on Feb. 10 by her mother Kimberlyn. Four days later, Scott's family accompanied police -- who needed to collect DNA evidence -- to the missing woman's rental home, where they say some of her items were missing, including a TV, stove, and baby toys intended for her son.

"Buzzards pick carrion," Kimberlyn told Hawaii News Now. "He knows she's not here to defend herself."

Of all the missing items, Scott's mom explained, she is most upset about the toys that were supposed to be given to her unborn grandchild.

"The only reason I can assume he wanted them is because he thought they were valuable. They're handmade," Kimberlyn said.

In an interview with Hawaii News Now, the landlord -- who asked to remain off camera -- claimed that Scott owed him money for rent and took her stuff in order to "protect it."

Kimberlyn said that the landlord also demanded hundreds of dollars for the return of her daughter's belongings.

"Apparently he has settled on $350 as his amount," Kimberlyn said. "And he told me the first time I met with him that he would waive that if we would leave him the TV ... and it just really felt very ugly and it's not right and I don't ever want to see anyone go through this. It's unbelievably ugly behavior."

Last week, Scott's SUV was discovered torched in a remote area and her clothing and other items were found by a private search party nearby.

As of Feb. 19, no suspects have been named in Scott's case. On Friday, Scott's family released a public statement thanking the Maui Police Department and local community, as well as discouraging the community from unfairly judging Scott's ex-boyfriend, Steven Capobianco, citing his full and continued cooperation.

Capobianco has been labeled a person of interest since he was one of the last people to see Scott before her disappearance.
