Kanye West has been hard at work trying to convince Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour that Kim deserves to front the legendary fashion magazine. Here's why we think he's right, and she'd make a great cover girl!
Kim Kardashian previewing her couture wedding dress on the cover of Vogue magazine -- that's Kanye West's biggest dream right now, multiple sources tell HollywoodLife.com. In fact, it's a gift that Kanye was hoping to deliver to his love for Valentine's Day, a source added.
The question is, has Kanye extracted the promise he had hoped for yet from his good friend, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour
Anna has declined, so far, to make Kim the face of Vogue, but perhaps with Kim and Kanye's planned nuptials in France coming up this summer, the time will be right for the reality star to land the coveted spot. After all, Kim is beautiful, successful, stylish, and popular. And she's already fronted multiple fashion magazine covers.
Vogue rivals Harper's Bazaar and InStyle have featured Kim Kardashian covers, as have Marie Claire, Allure, Glamour, Esquire, Shape, and Self.
Kanye spoke out publicly about his frustration with the Vogue cover denial with Ryan Seacrest on Oct. 29. "There's no way Kim Kardashian shouldn't be on the cover of Vogue. She's like the most intriguing woman right now. She's got Barbara Walters calling her like everyday... and collectively we're the most influential with clothing."
Kanye's got a couple of good points here. Kim is intriguing to her 19.5 million Twitter followers, 17.7 million Facebook fans, and 12.8 million Instagram followers.
Plus, millions of other women DO follow her every hair color switch -- from brunette, to streaks, to blonde, and back to brunette -- to her every outfit change, whether it's to a new bikini or to tight, butt-flattering jeans.
And love it or loathe it, Kim's Riccardo Tisci floral-patterened gown for Givenchy was the most-talked about dress at the Anna Wintour-chaired Met Ball gala in May 2013.
Anna may not have been a fan -- after all, Kim conspicuously did not appear in Vogue.com's photo gallery of the event, even though Kanye did. But women were nevertheless "intrigued" by Kim's controversial choice of a gown to cover her very pregnant figure.
"I took [Kim] to the Met Ball and they put it up on Vogue.com and tried to say she wasn't there because they didn't want a reality show girl there," Kanye complained to Ryan Seacrest about the episode.
We understand that a reality star may not have seemed, in the past, to have the import to appear on a Vogue cover, but pop culture is an ever-changing force and Kim has become far more influential than most movie stars today.
Vogue has demonstrated that it's increasingly been on the cutting-edge of presenting pop culture's strongest, most fascinating and trendsetting women.
Lady Gaga, Adele, Lena Dunham, Michelle Obama, Katy Perry, Rooney Mara, Beyonce, and Rihanna have all graced the cover in the past couple of years.
In fact, Rihanna is about to debut her third Vogue cover.
Kim has made her own important contributions to both the worlds of fashion and women's issues. She has made every pear-shaped woman who is short in stature with a prominent derriere feel beautiful, sexy, and comfortable in her own skin, and that's a huge accomplishment.
She's been outspoken about the weight-haters she was forced to deal with when pregnant, and it was courageous of her to directly address the crazy criticism she was subjected to.
Kim's also set a good mothering example, by putting her baby, North West's, needs for breastfeeding and nurturing far ahead of any record-breaking timetable for post-pregnancy weight loss. It was admirable that Kim didn't bend to Hollywood pressure to get thin quick post-birth.
Instead, she did what was right for her baby daughter and dropped pounds slowly -- showing millions of other women that you can be beautiful post-baby without being perfectly slim.
Kim Kardashian may not be an actress or a songstress like most of Vogue's other cover choices, but that doesn't mean that she hasn't been a role model as a style icon, sister, daughter, mother and businesswoman, to a generation of other young women.
For all these reasons, she'd be a great pick for a Vogue cover, especially if we get to see her in what no doubt will be the most talked-about wedding gown since Kate Middleton's!
