CEO Dave Kerpen Makes The Case For Why You Should Think Before You Tweet

In the age of social media, catching a person doing something embarrassing has become a viral jackpot. The antics of an annoying stranger can immediately become ubiquitous online with just a few tweets -- even if it turns out to be complete fiction. But is widely disseminating someone's shameful moment too mean-spirited to be worth it?

That question faced Likeable Local CEO Dave Kerpen when he stumbled upon a tense moment on the Long Island Rail Road. A passenger was loudly listening to Rush Limbaugh in the middle of the train, much to the chagrin of everyone else. Kerpen took a photo and tweeted it, then began taking video as another man confronted the passenger.

Then Kerpen had to decide whether to share what he had recorded. His debate with himself about the merits of shaming this man online or protecting his privacy is an eye-opening one that everyone with a smartphone should hear.
