When going through a divorce, anything you say -- or type, share or Tweet -- can be used against you in a court of law. Just ask Mark Byron, who was almost thrown in jail after ranting about his estranged wife on Facebook.
Byron spoke to HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd on Friday about the legal problems he faced thanks to a post on social media.
"I just basically made a general statement saying, ‘If you’re an evil vindictive woman and want to ruin your husband’s life and take your son’s father away from him, all you have to do is say that you’re scared,'" he told Redd.
Byron, who was fighting for custody of his young son at the time, says his now ex-wife took a printout of the Facebook post and asked that Byron be held in contempt of court. "The whole world was shocked when she got her wishes and got the contempt charge successfully held up against me," the single dad explained.
Byron was then given a choice by the magistrate in charge of his case, either apologize everyday on Facebook for 30 days straight or go to jail for 60 days. See how Byron handled the situation in the clip above.
