'Broad City' Girls Reveal The Best Advice From Their Mentor Amy Poehler

The Best Advice Amy Poehler Gave Them

On Wednesday, HuffPost Live was fortunate enough to host the creators and stars of "Broad City," Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson. While chatting with host Ricky Camilleri, Glazer and Jacobson revealed the best advice given to them by Amy Poehler, who was instrumental in developing "Broad City" from a web series to a Comedy Central sitcom.

The two women learned their comedy chops at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, which Poehler co-founded in the 1990s. When they began pitching "Broad City" as a TV show, they decided to reach for the stars and ask Poehler to be involved, and as luck would have it, the "Parks & Recreation" star was already familiar with the web series.

Poehler, who Glazer called a "protective, solidifying figure," gave them advice that they frequently draw on. Jacobson recalled Poehler telling them that they are the "police of [their] brand," and that the successes and failures of "Broad City" would ultimately would be their responsibility.
