Dog Rescuer James Guiliani Gets Emotional After Reuniting A Dog With Its Owner (VIDEO)

A Surprise Happy Ending For This Rescued Pooch

Buddy, a sweet little Chihuahua who's had a bit too much to eat, lives in a senior citizen's home in Brooklyn. After his owner passes away, her best friend Teddy takes him in. Though she loves Buddy and says he makes her feel closer to her friend, Teddy fears the dog is causing her serious respiratory problems. Forced to give Buddy up, she calls James Guiliani, a former mobster turned dog rescuer, for help. "This is the first rescue I don't want to do," James says on OWN's new docu-series, "The Diamond Collar."

Though Buddy is an unexpected addition to James' already full household, the family immediately falls in love with the pup. After having Buddy for one week, James is surprised when he gets a call from Teddy asking if she can have Buddy back. It turns out her doctor says she just has a sinus issue and is not allergic to dogs.

James is thrilled -- it's the first time he has ever experienced an owner taking an animal back after giving it up. Even so, it's a little bittersweet. "I did tell her I'd bring him back," James says. "Do I really want to? Absolutely not. I mean, who could not fall in love with this dog?"

After giving Buddy a bath and dressing him in a snazzy jogging suit, James drives Buddy over to Teddy's senior citizen's home, where a party awaits him.

"We just felt empty when he left," Teddy says. "When I called and asked for him back, part of me was afraid he was going to say no, and I didn't know what I was going to do."

Watch the video to see Buddy and Teddy's reunion, an emotional moment for James. "It's like hitting the lottery for me," James says. "This made me feel great. It actually made me cry."

"The Diamond Collar" airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on OWN.
