Helene Gayle, Kathy Calvin, & Lori Harnick Talk Gender Inequality At Davos

Helene Gayle On Gender Inequality: 'The Main Challenge Is Ignorance'

Microsoft's Lori Harnick, CARE USA President and CEO Helene Gayle and United Nations Foundation President and CEO Kathy Calvin sat down together with HuffPost Live at Davos, discussing technology and gender inequality.

Gayle admitted the main challenge with fighting gender inequality is ignorance.

"The main challenge is ignorance, in a lot of ways, lack of understanding and knowledge," Gayle said.

But Gayle said people working together can shift ideas and empower women in their families and communities.

"We've found that when communities work together on problems, they come up with creative solutions," Gayle said.

"You can take a community where girls and women have been systematically excluded from education and health... but... you actually can shift the dialogue," Gayle continued.

The women also spoke about technology, with Harnic noting how it's empowering young people and making them feel more motivated to change their world.
