When Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg gave a TEDTalk entitled, "Why We Have Too Few Women Leaders," she wasn't without reservations. She feared that addressing the fact that she was (whisper) a "woman," would only hurt her in the workplace.
Before giving her TEDTalk Sandberg was told, "you cannot be a serious business executive and speak about being a woman. You'll never be taken seriously again."
Fortunately, friends and supporters encouraged her to get on stage to discuss a subject that affects us all. Her speech on women and the need to continuously work to improve gender relations while battling stereotypes in the workplace reached millions. Her book "Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead" is a best seller.
Watch Sandberg sit down with Pat Mitchell in the videos above and below to discuss her passion for fighting for women's equality in the workplace, and in life.
"What we know is that stereotypes are holding women back from leadership roles all over the world ... I've been all over the world talking about it, and cultures are so different, even within our own country... they are so different except one thing -- gender. We think men should be strong, assertive, aggressive, have voice. We think women should speak when spoken to, help others."
