NYC Schools CLOSED Due To Snow: Closings Announced For Wednesday For All NYC Schools

New York City school administrations have announced that NYC schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, due to snow.

The following notice was posted tonight on the NYC Department of Education Web site:

Due to anticipated inclement weather conditions, all New York City public schools will be closed tomorrow, February 10, 2010. All after-school activities and PSAL events will also be cancelled. While travel conditions to school in the morning may not be difficult, the weather is expected to worsen as the day progresses, complicating dismissal. We are making this decision today to give parents as much time as possible to make alternative plans for tomorrow.

The New York Times reported it was a "fairly rare occurrence in recent years" with just two other snow days for NYC schools since 2004.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said of the impending storm: "The prognosis is for a very bad situation when these kids will be leaving school tomorrow afternoon."

Some 8 to 13 inches are expected to fall in the New York metropolitan region and high winds are expected for the next 24 hours, according to reports.
