Chicago Flight Delays, Cancellations: O'Hare and Midway Slammed By Storm

Flights were delayed or canceled by all major airlines Tuesday as Chicago braced for up to 14 inches of snow.

City Department of Aviation officials said that between Midway and O'Hare airports, over 600 flights had been canceled as of 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. The FAA reported that flights in and out of O'Hare were experiencing delays of 40 minutes or more, with some trips experiencing much longer waits. With snow expected to continue throughout the day, travel problems are likely to get worse.

The Department of Aviation suggests all travelers call ahead to their airlines before heading out to the airports. Southwest Airlines has canceled every departing flight between 10
a.m. Tuesday through 10 a.m. on Wednesday; Delta and other airlines still listed some of their afternoon flights as "on time."
