11-Year-Old Girl Stabs Family Member 9 Times: Cops

An 11-year-old girl in Dallas was arrested Saturday after she allegedly stabbed a relative 9 times.

Family friends told News 8 that the victim, 41-year-old Toshia Edmonson, was the girl's mother. Police have released Edmonson's name, but have not confirmed her relationship to the girl.

“It’s family violence. That’s all I can say,” Dallas Police Cpl Monica Cordova told the Dallas Morning News.

A police report obtained by the Dallas Morning News says that the girl was dropped off at Edmonson's residence around 11:45 p.m. Friday and was angry to be there. The child told officers that Edmonson told her she was going to give her away, then pushed her into a couch, according to the report.

The girl then allegedly waited until Edmonson fell asleep, then took a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the head, neck and shoulder, 9 times in all. Edmonson woke up and was able to stop the girl, according to CBS DFW. The girl's brother saw what was happening and ran out of the apartment screaming for help. Police showed up at about 4:11 a.m.

Police say the girl stabbed the woman because she was "so, so angry and frustrated with her."

She was charged with family violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Edmonson is in stable condition at a hospital.
