Farewell, Honest Abe.
As of Monday morning, Lincoln Restaurant, a mainstay of the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Irving Park Road, has ended its 43-year run.
Chicagoist reported on the Lincoln's closing earlier this month after the Lincoln Lodge, the diner's popular in-house comedy club, announced the closing via its Facebook page. News of the greasy spoon's closing was confirmed by a report in the Chicago Tribune on Saturday.
The Tribune reports increased competition and changes in customer dining preferences were to blame for the family-run restaurant's closing.
"(The Lincoln is) like a second family," the Lincoln owner Tony Athans told the Tribune. "It's almost like a family member has passed."
Among those headlining the final comedy show at Lincoln Lodge show was former Chicagoan Kyle Kinane. The Lincoln Lodge is now looking for a new home.
