A San Francisco cop went above and beyond the call of duty to help a woman in need.
While patrolling the streets on Friday afternoon, Officer Jackie Selinger came upon a homeless woman holding a sign saying she needed a pair of shoes, ABC7 reported. The kind police officer took the woman to a local store in Union Square and bought her a pair of all-weather $69 boots using her own money for the purchase.
"I just thought about my family and the fact that we have so much," Selinger told the news outlet.
ABC7 learned of the story when Selinger’s proud son submitted a picture of his mom’s good deed to the news outlet’s Facebook page. The photo has since been liked by more than 8,000 people and has garnered a number of warm comments.
“The world could use more people with kind hearts,” one user wrote.
Cops offering up such heartwarming acts of kindness aren’t necessarily unusual, but it’s rare that the public catches a glimpse of the gesture.
Last year, while working in Times Square, Larry DePrimo -- who was recently promoted to detective -- noticed a shivering homeless man with blisters the “size of his palm” on the barefoot man’s feet.
The generous officer bought the man socks and a pair of boots, thinking no one would ever find out about his good deed.
But when an inspired passerby came upon the scene, she decided to snap a picture and share the moving image on Facebook. It instantly went viral and was liked more than 400,000 times.
DePrimo said he felt he had no choice but to help the man in need at the time.
“You could see the blisters [on his feet] from 15 feet away,” DePrimo told CNN. “I knew I had to help him.”
