The end is nigh for Matt Smith's tenure as the Doctor. Fans have known for months that this Wednesday's Christmas Special entitled "The Time of the Doctor" will be Smith's last outing as the Doctor, and this interview proves there will be tears.

Jenna Coleman, who plays the Doctor's companion, Clara, visited the British morning talk show, "BBC Breakfast" to discuss the emotional farewell, and how her character will handle the next generation of the Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi.

"Goodbyes are always sad and never easy. That day where we have these words to say, these wonderful beautiful words that Stephen had written," said Coleman about filming she and Smith's final scene together. She continued, "We've tried to avoid them for as long as possible and not look at the scene because it's so beautiful and sad. It's hard to say goodbye."

It certainly is!

Watch the interview above to hear Coleman talk about the Christmas Special, Comic Con, and how her relationship with the new Doctor will be different.

The "Doctor Who" Christmas Special airs Wed. Dec. 25 at 9 p.m. EST on BBC America.
