A Marine plummeted to his death Saturday afternoon in a mysterious sky diving accident in Australia.
Marine Brandon McGraw, 33, of Hampstead, N.C. was on vacation with his wife in Euroa, Australia during a trip they won on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," according to the Jacksonville Daily News.
McGraw died despite a "flawless descent" and the incident is under investigation, the Daily News reports.
Capt. Barry Morris with Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command told WCTI that McGraw was a "well-trained free-faller."
McGraw was a gunnery sergeant and a critical skills operator at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C., according to the station.
McGraw's wife Cherilyn thanked well wishers on her Facebook page.
"I'm beyond honored and words will never be able to express my gratitude for all the love, support and prayers," she wrote. "You all have kept me SO strong."
She also paid tribute to her late husband.
"My hero. My angel," she wrote. "I love you more than anything in the world, honey. You are the most amazing man."
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story indicated that Brandon McGraw won the trip. It was his wife who won the vacation.
