Art Institute Of Chicago Is Free In February: Admission Fee Waived This Month

Admission will be free for the entire month of February at the museum of the Art Institute of Chicago, including the new Modern Wing.

Currently on display is the museum's expansive "Modern In America" exhibit, a survey of modernism and modernity in art from the first half of the 20th century. Featured artists range from Grant Wood and Edward Hopper to Georgia O'Keefe and Willem de Kooning.

Also opening on February 6 is the new photography exhibition entitled "In The Vernacular." From the museum's description:

This exhibition presents the work of artists who chose instead to strategically use photography's everyday forms as a source of inspiration, consciously appropriating, reworking, and interrogating the aesthetics, content, and means of distribution associated with vernacular photography. Photographs by Walker Evans, Andy Warhol, Lee Friedlander, Cindy Sherman, Martin Parr, Nikki S. Lee, and others represented in the Art Institute's permanent collection challenge us to reevaluate the impact, value, and status of the photographs we encounter in our daily lives.

For more information on free admission this month, visit the Art Institute's February Free Days page.
