Isiah Stroud Murder: Man Arrested In NY For Teen's 2008 Slaying On North Side

A man was arrested in New York this week more than a year after his alleged involvement in the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy in the North Side Roger's Park neighborhood.

David D. Bell, 20, whose last known address was 5814 South Indiana in Chicago, was arrested Tuesday evening in the Bronx after being the subject of a nationwide manhunt since December of 2008, according to an FBI release.

On Dec. 19, 2008, Isiah Stroud was stabbed to death in the 1500 block of West Jarvis Avenue outside of a CTA Red Line station, CBS 2 Chicago reported in 2008.

In days following the attack, 18-year-old movie usher Montrel Williams was charged in the murder, but police continued looking for Bell, who fled the area.

Bell was charged in Cook County with first-degree murder and faces federal charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, the release said.

Police told the Sun-Times that the conflict between the alleged suspects and Stroud stemmed from an earlier gang fight near Sullivan High School, where three gang members were stabbed.

Stroud's mother, Ester Stroud, told the Sun-Times that her son -- who dropped out of Senn High School and attended DuBois alternative school -- had no gang affiliations.

Bell is being held without bond in New York pending his extradition to Cook County.

Williams remains in the Cook County Jail where he was ordered held on $3 million bond.

Residents in Rogers Park came together following Stroud's murder, some saying the slaying forced the community to confront gang violence.
