Carl Nicks, Florida Dad, Charged With Child Abuse After Joining Fight Between Teens

Dad Incites Fight, Punches Teen Who Fought Son

A Florida father was arrested after allegedly inciting a fight between his son and another teen, then intervening once his boy started to lose.

Cell phone video of the incident released by the Satellite Beach, Fla., police shows two teenaged boys get into a fight. When his son goes down, Carl Nicks, 51, steps in and pulls the other boy off of him. But it doesn't stop there: Nicks appears to grab the other boy by the neck and punches him in the face twice.

According to WKMG, other witnesses told Nicks to back off when he got involved, with one woman reportedly shouting, "It's not your fight."

Nicks was arrested Friday following the incident. According to Florida Today, he is charged with felony child abuse and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child.

“It’s just an unfortunate situation where you have adults that are encouraging children to settle their differences by violence. And I think that’s terrible,” Satellite Beach Police Chief Jeff Pearson told the newspaper. “I think that’s not the right thing to teach our kids."
