There's something magical that happens when form meets function, an example of which we recently spotted on the pages of New York magazine.
The location: An 18th-floor duplex located in the Robert A. M. Stern-designed 15 Central Park West. The multi-purpose masterpiece: A massive, steel-suspended staircase created as both a sculpture and as a connection between the two levels of the space.
Late Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta is responsible for the design, which New York describes as signature Legorreta style for its "clean geometry on a bold scale," and which is the only New York City project Legorreta ever did.
And though the staircase is the centerpiece of the Legorreta's design, the duplex's marble pools, earthy palette and stunning Central Park views are equally drool-worthy.
It's not surprise that the building where one of Legorreta's latest works is housed was recently named the priciest condo building in NYC. And while the owners of this unit prefer to remain anonymous, the building has been has home to Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein, musician Sting and actor Denzel Washington.
