Patrick Stewart: 'Star Trek' Work Is Just As Valid As Shakespeare Work

'Star Trek' Is Just As 'Valid' As Shakespeare

Patrick Stewart knows his work as Captain Picard on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" is just as important as his classic stage work.

"If I've had any kind of influence or impact as an actor, much more of it has come from my television work than ever came from my theater work," Stewart says in the exclusive clip above. The clip, which is included on the "Star Trek: The Next Generation - Unification" Blu-ray release, is part of the "From One Generation To The Next" special feature.

"It is as valid as Shakespeare. I don't distinguish one from the other," Stewart says.

Both "Star Trek: The Next Generation - Unification" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" Season 5 on Blu-ray hit shelves Tuesday, Nov. 19. "Unification" is a feature-length presentation of the two-part epic adventure from "Next Generation" Season 5. In the episode, Leonard Nimoy reprises Spock as both he and Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Stewart) attempt to unify the Vulcans and the Romulans.
