Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has plagiarized parts of his speeches on multiple occasions, recent reports have shown.
Now, Salon has found two other instances of plagiarism. According to reporters Sean McElwee and Jenny Kutner, Paul plagiarized the work of the Gatestone Institute during a June speech at the Faith and Freedom Coalition Road to Majority Conference, and during an October speech at the annual Value Voters Summit:
Paul’s speech draws — without attribution — from two Gatestone Institute articles, “The Degradation of Christian Women Under Islam,” published on September 11, 2013 , and “Muslim Persecution of Christians,” published on April 18th.
While several elements of Paul’s speech were taken word for word from Gatestone, in other cases a single word or two was changed or added. Paul did not attribute Gatestone’s writing or research anywhere in the speech, as it was originally posted on his web site.
Earlier this week, Paul took responsibility for the plagiarism, but said he was a victim of "haters" who are holding him to a higher standard because of his position as a U.S. Senator.
"Ultimately, I'm the boss, and things go out under my name, so it is my fault," Paul told CNN. "I never had intentionally presented anyone's ideas as my own."
