Geniuses Create Magical New Gadget For Painting With Light

Not since Nickelodeon's Gak have we been so excited for an invention. GIF-ted duo Duncan Frazier and Steve McGuigan of Bitbanger Labs have designed a nifty gadget to make all your long exposure light painting dreams come true. They call it Pixelstick.

You may recognize the stunning technique of light painting from pioneers like Pablo Picasso and contemporary enthusiasts like Darren Pearson, the skeleton skateboarder. Yet while it took Pearson an entire year to create his just over one-minute masterpiece, the Pixelstick will make light painting a far less time consuming endeavor.

The Pixelstick is made of 198 full color RGB LEDs, housed in a lightweight aluminum casing. A small mounted box they call the "brain" reads images from an SD card and displays them, one line at a time. Each LED matches up to a single pixel in the image and voila! Light painting at your fingertips. We're skipping some of the science, but you can read all about it on their Kickstarter page. In the meantime, more GIFs!
