Iconic 'Christmas Story' Scene Immortalized With Statue In Hammond, Indiana

We triple-dog dare you to pretend you can't recall the iconic cinematic scene.

The northwest Indiana town of Hammond on Tuesday is unveiling a new statue immortalizing the character of Flick's fateful acceptance of a dare to put his tongue on a flagpole in the yard of Warren G. Harding Elementary School, the fictional Hohman, Ind. school featured in the classic holiday film "A Christmas Story," the AP reports.

"Hohman" was based on Hammond, the hometown of Jean Shepherd, whose childhood stories the movie was based on.

According to NBC Chicago, Scott Schwartz, who played Flick in the 1983 film, attended the unveiling of the bronze statue at the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority's welcome center located at 7770 Corinne Dr.

The statue was made by Rotblatt-Amrany, the company also responsible for the Michael Jordan statue at the United Center, CBS Chicago reports. The statue will also be a part of the center's annual “A Christmas Story” Comes Home exhibit, which this year is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film and opens on Nov. 6.
