Andrew Rannells is set to become a series regular on "Girls" if the series is picked up for Season 4, according to Deadline.

Playing Dunham's gay ex-boyfriend Elijah, Rannells became a fan favorite playing Hannah's (Lena Dunham) gay ex-boyfriend Elijah in eight episodes of "Girls" Seasons 1 and 2.

Last season Rannells was cast in the NBC sitcom "The New Normal," which led to scheduling conflicts, and Rannells had to give up "Girls" since it was filmed in New York and "New Normal" in Los Angeles.

Now with "The New Normal" cancelled, Rannells is free to reprise his role as Elijah for the upcoming third season, and if the show is picked up for a fourth season he will be bumped up to series regular.

The third season of "Girls" premieres January 12 at 10 p.m. on HBO.
