Cop Killed Firefighter, Girlfriend In Murder Suicide, Police Say

A police officer, firefighter and the mother of a six-year-old boy are dead following what authorities say was a love triangle that turned into a double murder and suicide.

Officials identified the suspected shooter as 37-year-old Baltimore police officer Christopher Lee Robinson, the Washington Post reports. Robinson fatally shot his former girlfriend, Marie Hartman, 26, and her current boyfriend, Andrew Hoffman, a 27-year-old Baltimore city firefighter, before turning the gun on himself, according to the Post.

The three people were found dead early Sunday morning inside a home in Glen Burnie, Md. according to Fox45.

“We were quickly able to determine through our investigation that this was a murder-suicide. It was domestic type of relationship going on,” Lt. T.J. Smith, of the Anne Arundel County Police, told CBS Baltimore.

Hartman's sister was also home during the incident. She hid inside a closet while listening to the gunfire go off before jumping out a window to safety, according to the Baltimore Sun. The newspaper reported that Robinson was struggling over the end of his relationship with Hartman.

"We had met Chris before. He seemed like a very nice guy, very cordial. We never suspected anything like this," says Ed Chaney, Hartman's father, to Fox45.

Hoffman's family released a statement, which in part reads: “Our hearts are absolutely broken over the loss of our son, brother, grandson and uncle. Our beloved Andy dedicated his life to protecting and saving others with the Baltimore City Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic.
