Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck blamed himself for the loss of veteran receiver Reggie Wayne after their win over Denver on Sunday night. The Colts finished off the Broncos without Reggie Wayne during the final seven minutes after his knee buckled on an incomplete pass thrown his way on third down.
"It was my fault. Terrible throw. We know he's a fighter. He's our team leader so it hurts when he's not out here. But we're hoping for the best," Luck told NBC's Michele Tafoya after the game.
Unfortunately, the Colts received bad news on Monday. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Wayne suffered a torn ACL, ending his streak of playing in 189 straight games.
Wayne cut across the field on 3rd and 1 and was left wide open, but Denver's pass-rush forced a quick throw from Luck that was low and a little behind the receiver. The six-time Pro Bowler tumbled over, untouched, and laid on the ground for a few minutes before limping back to the bench. According to Tafoya, Wayne had tears in his eyes while on the sideline.
“I put a lot of blame on myself for missing him,” Luck said, per Mike Wells of ESPN.com. “I don’t think there was anyone within a square mile of him.”
UPDATE Colts head coach Chuck Pagano confirmed on Monday that Wayne suffered a torn ACL.
