This has been a rough week in the style department for Queen Mathilde of Belgium.
First, she accidentally channels Big Bird. Now, she's chosen an outfit that's much more mature... maybe too mature. In fact, it looks ripped directly from our grandmother's living room.
At a formal visit to the Belgian city of Ghent on Wednesday, Queen Mathilde chose a floral brocade-style dress and a fussy beige fascinator, complete with an old school velvet-dotted veil. A departure from the royal's brighter, punchier outfits, the garment reminded us of a grandma couch, while the hat was like frilly curtains hanging above it.
But hey, Mathilde is just getting her footing as queen, as she was upgraded from princess to queen consort just this summer. Since then, it's been a parade of interesting outfits, a pleasant diversion from the elegant yet humdrum styles worn by our other favorite royal. We'll chalk this latest outfit up to taking a fashion risk, and that we can always commend.
Are you a fan of this outfit or do you think the look falls flat?
