'Gravity' Sound Effects On Display In Fascinating New Behind-The-Scenes Video Featuring Alfonso Cuarón

Alfonso Cuarón's movie, which collected a record-breaking $55.6 million during its opening weekend, boasts an approach to sound editing that marries high-voltage noise with moments of unexpected serenity. Cuarón and re-recording mixer Skip Lievsay discuss their methods of creating "Gravity's" sound, from the use of microphones in Sandra Bullock's and George Clooney's space suits to how the dialogue was inserted amid such adrenaline-inducing action.

"What inspires me is the cinematic experience," Cuarón says in the video. "The cinematic experience that is a language in itself, and it's a language that you use tools. And sound is one of these tools. When you have the possibility of having sound coming out of extra single place, it replicates the experience of being alive."
