Wish Book Grants More Than $6 Million In Dreams For Bay Area Residents

The San Jose Mercury News Wish Book has been granting the dreams of ambitious and needy Bay Area residents for 27 years. The series told 25 stories this year about locals trying to make a difference or move forward with their lives, which the paper has collected in their Holiday Wish Book. The wish book allows readers to donate directly to a featured cause or to a general fund to improve the lives of others.

Here's an excerpt from a story about just one nearby nonprofit, Adopt An Angel:

Georgia Butterfield is a woman whose head is turned by shiny objects: chrome bicycle fenders, glossy ribbons on packages, the glint of new tech toys.
But the Fremont woman also has a soft spot for the cozier amenities: cuddly stuffed animals, snug jammies, warm winter coats. These are the sugarplums that dance through the head of the chairwoman of Adopt an Angel, the all-volunteer non-profit group that collects gifts for children who might otherwise be forgotten at the holidays.

The Wish Book has raised more than $6 million for others over the last three decades.
