'Parks & Rec': Kristen Bell Presides Over Shocking Development With Eagleton

A shocking twist on "Parks & Recreation" when Kristen Bell stopped by for a visit. Bell played Eagleton's equivalent to Leslie Knope, Ingrid de Forest. Longtime rivals, Pawnee and Eagleton separated more than a century ago and have been arguing ever since. But now, Eagleton found itself in dire financial straits. Once Chris and Ben started looking into their financials, it became pretty obvious what happened.

“You filled the public pools with bottled water?” Chris marveled.

“Total body hydration," Ingrid argued. And that was just the tip of the iceberg for ridiculous Eagleton spending. In the end -- after battling her own hatred of Eagleton -- Leslie did the right thing and came up with a solution. Pawnee would reabsorb Eagleton. Needless to say, it wasn't a popular opinion, but it certainly creates a ton of story opportunities for the show.

Michael Ausiello of HitFix is hoping this means we'll get to see Bell again, as she was underutilized here. "Yes, the whole episode is about Leslie putting aside one of her prejudices to do the right thing," he wrote. "but this was just too much of Leslie in a juvenile mode, and as a result she didn't give Kristen Bell enough to play off of as Ingrid.”

This sets the stage for some other fun counterparts, too. As IGN's Matt Fowler pointed out, "Back when the news of Bell's guest casting broke, there were also a few more items about other Eagleton doppelgangers - like a rival version of Ron and Donna to accompany Bell's Ingrid. Now that the two cities have become one I can see (seeing as how they didn't appear in tonight's episode) how they'll eventually pop up.”

Those doppelgangers will come in the form of June Diane Raphael, Sam Elliott and Billy Eichner later this season as counterparts to April, Ron and Donna, respectively. Watch for them as "Parks & Recreation" continues on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
