'The Vampire Diaries' Premiere: Silas Takes Control Of Mystic Falls

So far, it doens't look like Mystic Falls is going to miss the presence of "The Originals." Based on the season premiere of "The Vampire Diaries," Silas is perfectly ready to take up Klaus' mantle as the nastiest immortal in town. With his doppelganger, Stefan, trapped underwater, Silas had been running around town pretending to be the younger Salvatore brother.

In the closing moments, though, he came out -- in a way. He took over the microphone while the town mayor, Bonnie's dad, was giving a speech. He then decided to test the limits of his mind control, and discovered that he could command everyone in attendance with ease.

“No one make a sound or move a muscle," he told the assembled townspeople. Then, while they were frozen, he slit the mayor's throat. Bonnie -- who is dead, but was in attendance as a ghost -- ran up in shock and horror to her dying father.

Silas then instructed the townsfolk to find Katherine and bring her to him. Entertainment Weekly's Mandi Bierly can't wait to see why Silas wants Katherine so bad -- especially now that she's human. She suspects, however, that this will be a season-long mystery.

Buddy TV's Jennifer Lind-Westbrook noted, "It looks like now Bonnie's dad will finally find out his daughter is dead. Damon has to keep Jeremy and Katherine alive, battle Silas and find his brother all the while keeping his activities a secret from his true love.”

Elena and Caroline are stumbling into the early stages of a mystery all their own as they settle into college life. "The Vampire Diaries" continues on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
