While in Chicago for a charity fundraiser Wednesday, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton indicated she's been keeping an eye on Illinois politics -- particularly the 2014 governor's race.
Speaking as part of the Chicago House's Speaker Series Luncheon, Clinton -- who was born in Chicago -- thanked Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn for being in attendance at the event and commented, "He's just been entered into the Guinness World Records Book as luckiest politician," according to NBC Chicago.
Clinton's comment was in reference to former White House chief of staff Bill Daley's announcement this week that he is ending his run at the Democratic nomination for Illinois governor. Daley said on Tuesday that he felt he could have beaten Quinn, but that his heart wasn't in the prolonged battle to address the state's many problems.
Daley also said he expects a Republican will defeat the incumbent mayor in next year's general election.
In response to Daley's prediction, Quinn told the Chicago Tribune Wednesday, "Anybody can say their opinion. My job is to work hard for folks who aren't big shots."
The Clinton luncheon raised more than $800,000 for Chicago House, an HIV/AIDS service agency, according to NBC.
