Ayvani Hope Perez Kidnapping: Teen's Mom Was Arrested With Suspect In 2012 Drug Bust

Authorities in Georgia have revealed a new link between a kidnapped teen's mother and one suspect in her daughter's abduction.

Police records show that Maria Corral and suspect Juan Alberto Contreras-Rodriguez were arrested in a 2012 marijuana trafficking bust in which authorities seized 500 pounds of pot, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

On Wednesday, Corral's daughter, 14-year-old Ayvani Hope Perez, was found alive one day after being taken at gunpoint from her suburban Atlanta home during a robbery. Police have since arrested Contreras-Rodriguez, 40, and another man, Wildrego Jackson, 29.

Corral was never indicted on charges related to the drug incident. The charges against Contreras-Ramirez were dropped after aspects of the search were deemed unconstitutional. Corral may have just been in the "wrong place at the wrong time," Michael Katz, the lawyer who represented her, told the Journal-Constitution.

Officials said that Perez was in good health following a medical evaluation Wednesday afternoon, according to NBC News.

Two additional suspects in the investigation remain at large, police say. More arrests are expected.
