The Miss America Pageant crowned its 2014 winner at the 87th annual event, held at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It was both a historic victory, as well as a rare back-to-back victory for the same state. Miss New York Nina Davuluri took home the crown, receiving it from the 2013 winner -- also from New York -- Mallory Hagan.
The 24-year-old Davuluri becomes the first-ever Miss America winner to be of Indian descent. She pulled off her victory despite initially missing her cue during the talent portion of the competition. Once she took the stage, however, Davuluri wowed everybody with a stunning Bollywood fusion dance.
Davuluri is in the process of applying to medical schools, so the $50,000 scholarship she won as part of her prize package will surely come in quite handy. As part of her duties, she'll also be spending the next 12 months traveling a whopping 20,000 miles every month to speak about her platform, celebrating diversity.
History was also made on the night when Miss Kansas Theresa Vail became the first contestant ever to show off her tattoos. While she didn't place in the top five, she did win ABC's online competition, naming her America's Choice. According to the Kansas City star, Vail's singing just wasn't up to snuff.
The first runner-up was Miss California Crystal Lee, followed by Miss Oklahoma Kelsey Griswold, Miss Florida Myrrhanda Jones and Miss Minnesota Rebecca Yeh.
