Texting While Driving Causes Maryland Woman To Crash Into Lake, Authorities Say

Texting while driving is never a good idea, and it seems one Maryland woman learned that the hard way this week.

According to the Charles County Sheriff's Office, the unidentified 25-year-old woman drove into a lake near Waldorf, later admitting to officers that she became distracted by a text message.

Authorities were called to the scene of the crash at Wakefield Lake around 12:25 p.m. Tuesday. The woman reportedly veered off the roadway on St. Charles Parkway and struck a tree, which propelled the vehicle about 60 feet into the lake.

By the time emergency services arrived, the woman was out of the vehicle. In a statement, local authorities said she was able to exit the car from the driver's side window. The Temple Hills woman was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

As WUSA9 TV reports, police may pursue charges against the distracted driver.
