Billboard Alternative Songs Chart Celebrates 25 Years With These Highest-Ranking No. 1's

Billboard first introduced the Alternative Songs chart 25 years ago Tuesday, on Sept. 10, 1988. Since then, many of the biggest mainstream rock bands have found chart success where they might have missed it on the Hot 100. The rankings have been kindest to Red Hot Chili Peppers, who've seen 12 of their singles reach No. 1 on the Alternative roundup. But Muse bests the Chili Peppers on the list of songs that have sat atop the chart for longest time. Here are the top 10.
