After a week of intense debate over whether the U.S. should attack Syria, Saturday's GOP weekly address stayed away from that issue.
Republicans instead hammered at Obamacare, with doctor and current Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) warning of the "real sticker shock" Americans will feel from the law. Barrasso was an orthopedic surgeon before joining the Senate, the AP noted.
"What we got is higher taxes and bigger government, without the lower costs or quality care," said Barrasso of the law. "The so-called Affordable Care Act is hurting middle class families -- their wages, their jobs, and their health care. The health care law has proven to be unpopular, unworkable, and unaffordable."
Barrasso's remarks come one month after House Republicans voted a 40th time to repeal Obamacare. Back in August, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) revealed that a group of GOP lawmakers meet weekly to discuss how to get rid of the health care legislation.
Beginning October 1, the Obamacare online insurance marketplace will open, affording Americans without health care the opportunity to purchase private coverage or potentially earn a tax credit. According to a Kaiser Family Foundation analysis published earlier this week, premiums are expected to vary widely by state and city.
