Warren Thomas Zilka, Florida Teacher, Sent Sexual Emails To Student: Cops

Teacher Charged Over Emails Sent To Student

A charter school teacher surrendered to Coral Springs Police on Friday following accusations that he sent sexually explicit emails to a former student, police said.

Warren Thomas Zilka, 43, is charged with transmitting material harmful to a minor and unlawful transmission of obscene material, both felonies, according to the arrest report.

The middle school social studies teacher allegedly used his school-issued computer to send about 100 emails in May to a girl, then 14, who was his student at Imagine Charter School of Broward, 9001 Westview Drive, the report stated. Some of the graphic messages inquired about the kinds of sexual acts they could engage in, police said.

On Monday, the student told police about the emails, which detectives retrieved from her phone. On Tuesday, they questioned Zilka, who admitted to sending the emails from his school computer, the arrest report stated.

Zilka is on leave from Imagine Charter School pending the outcome of the case, officials said. Records show he also taught at Paladin Academy in Weston.

Investigators want to know if any other students at either school might have received similar emails from Zilka and are urging anyone with information to call Detective Jill Shelton at 954-346-1222. ___
