What Princess Diana Can Teach Prince William About Parenting (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Princess Diana's Beach Holiday Is A Lesson In Laid-Back Parenting

Princess Diana died 16 years ago on August 31 -- but instead of focusing on the loss, we're focusing on her legacy. The so-called People's Princess was just 36 years old when her life was tragically cut short, meaning she didn't get to see her sons Prince William and Prince Harry grow into men, and she wasn't around to give parenting advice to new father William.

Still, there are lessons to be gleaned from Diana's royal parenting days. Namely, to keep things laid-back. William and Kate Middleton seem to be following her example so far, as evidenced by baby George's ultra-casual royal portrait.

Next up: Perhaps Will and Kate should head to the beach. In Diana's honor, we're revisiting photos and video from her sandy holiday on the British Virgin Islands in 1990. There, the stunning princess enjoyed relaxing playtime with the wee ones, giving new meaning to the oft-used phrase "fun in the sun" with stealthy shades and a cheetah-print cover-up. Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and tiny Prince George, take note: Perhaps we should pay respect to Granny Diana with a vacation this summer.
