Fans worldwide have fallen in love with Patrick Dempsey on "Grey's Anatomy." But he has another passion in racing. In fact, he may be more passionate about racing than acting. The new, four-part documentary series "Patrick Dempsey: Racing Le Mans" chronicles the actor's preparation for the biggest race of his life: a 24-hour endurance race in Le Mans, France.
While his success on "Grey's" has allowed him to pursue his passion for racing, Dempsey says he's more comfortable on the track than on-set. "My life really started once I started racing. Acting, I’ve never felt comfortable," he admitted. "I never felt like I belonged in the acting community ... With the car, it’s very clear cut. Hollywood is not clear cut, it doesn’t make any sense.”
Dempsey admitted that he's kind of disillusioned with acting, though he doesn't downplay the significance of "Grey's Anatomy" in his life. He admits that the show changed everything for him. Of course, the show's studio also requires him to have three times the amount of insurance a regular race car driver has.
David Hinckley of the New York Daily News gave the show a positive three-out-of-five stars, though he did say the four-parter "is long enough that only the most devoted motorheads will devour all its dramas."
Of course, the race already happened back in June, so enthusiasts already know how Dempsey and his team fared. SPOILER WARNING: they came in fourth place.
But does this series serve as a prelude for a Patrick Dempsey career change? The actor told Buzzfeed he still doesn't know if he'll stick with "Grey's Anatomy" beyond the upcoming tenth season. "I’m amazed at what Grey’s has done for me and my life and my family and people around me," he said. "We’re now currently shooting the 200th episode. Who would have thought that 10 years ago? And people are still into it, and it’s doing well. One day at a time.”
