Terri Adkins, Florida Woman, Faces Child Neglect Charges After 5 Kids Found In Trailer Home Meth Lab

Mom Raised Kids In Meth Lab: Police

A Florida woman faces child neglect charges after police discovered that she was raising five children in a mobile home that was used to cook methamphetamine.

According to WTSP, authorities were called out to the home after reports of a fire. After a fire rescue team put the flames out, they called Pasco County Sheriff's deputies because they suspected the home doubled as a meth lab. Deputies interviewed Terri Adkins, 30, who said that her five children lived at the residence, but that they often spent time at a neighbor's house.

Adkins said that she used meth to "numb herself" and helped manufacture the substance. She was arrested and charged with child neglect, but no charges have been filed in connection with the meth lab.

According to the Tampa Bay Tribune, deputies also found used syringes in the house.

Sadly, this isn't the only recent case in which kids were potentially exposed to a home meth lab.

Earlier this month, seven suspects, some of them members of the same family, were arrested after police raided a suspected meth lab at a Utah home. According to KSL, police found eight children under the age of 14 at the house, and worried that the kids might have been exposed to the drugs.

The man accused of running the lab told police that he cooked and sold the drugs in order to feed his grandchildren.

In July, an Iowa woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison after she knowingly operated a daycare in the same house where her boyfriend cooked methamphetamine. One child who attended the daycare tested positive for meth exposure at three times the level of the convicted woman.
